Winter and summer

Plan a summer stay in the mountains

Austria is also a place for walking, cycling and days by the water. Choose your base around the activities you want, then check which lifts, guest cards and local facilities are open in your dates. Winter facilities and summer inclusions do not always follow the same rules, which is why the summer chalets page lists only stays where the owner confirms a summer season, and the hiking holidays guide shows what to ask a resort.

Practical answers

Questions people ask before booking a chalet in Austria

How do I get from Innsbruck airport to St Anton?

St Anton is about 100 km from Innsbruck airport according to Ski Arlberg and a transfer operator, so most visitors book a transfer or hire a car, and St Anton also has its own railway station. Zürich is about 200 km and Munich about 260 km. Our guide to getting to your chalet gives the distances we could confirm for other resorts.

Do UK visitors need a visa for a chalet holiday in Austria?

No visa is needed for up to 90 days in any 180-day period on a British passport. The passport must have been issued less than 10 years before you arrive and have at least 3 months left after you plan to leave the Schengen area. The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, so you may be asked for fingerprints and a photo at your first entry. ETIAS is not yet in operation and no applications are being taken.

Why does a stay page show no price?

Prices change by week, group size and conditions, and we have no live price feed. A price copied from an old page would mislead you. Each stay page links to the provider, where you set your dates and see the final price and what it includes.

What do confirmed, listed and not confirmed mean on a stay page?

Confirmed means two independent sources agree on the fact. Listed means one source says so. Not confirmed means we could not find it or the sources disagree, so we show no number. The page on how we compare goes through the checks.

Do I need winter tyres or snow chains to drive to my chalet?

From 1 November to 15 April Austria applies a situational winter equipment rule: in snow, slush or ice, cars may only drive with winter tyres, with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm. It is not a blanket obligation for the whole period. If you hire a car, ask the rental company what the car is fitted with.

Is the Austrian tourist tax included in the price of a chalet?

Austrian destinations charge a local tourist tax per person per night, and the amount differs by region and municipality. Whether it is included in the price or paid on arrival depends on the provider, so check the booking details. We show no fixed figure because it varies.

Is a chalet booked through a partner protected by ATOL?

ATOL protects package trips that include a flight and are bought from an ATOL holder. If you book accommodation on its own and arrange flights separately, it is not a package under the Package Travel Regulations 2018, so ATOL does not cover it. Check your booking confirmation to see what protection applies to the booking you make.
